Synthesis and Characterization of Carboxymethyl Cellulose Derived from Empty Fruit Bunch

نویسندگان

چکیده

Oil palm empty fruit bunch (EFB), a cellulose rich lignocellulosic biomass has huge potential to be utilised as raw material for the synthesis of carboxymethyl (CMC). In this study, CMC was synthesised from EFB extracted at optimum carboxymethylation reaction conditions. The yield obtained by alkaline treatment followed bleaching with hydrogen peroxide 45.5 wt.%. structure elucidated using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns. Meanwhile, characterised FT-IR, XRD scanning electron microscopy (SEM). maximum degree substitution (DS) 1.30 177.51 wt.% purity 89% determined chemical methods conditions 30 NaOH, 18 g SMCA, 65 °C, 3 h time less than 75 μm EFB-cellulose particle size. inferred low crystallinity while FTIR spectra verified presence different functional groups. results DS work were considerably higher those reported in literature. can further various industries such detergent, mining, flotation, oil gas drilling muds applications.

Synthesis and Characterization of Cellulose Acetate from TCF Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch Pulp

Cellulose acetate (CA) was successfully synthesized by the acetylation of TCF cellulose pulp from oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB) at room temperature, using acetic anhydride as the acetylating agent and acetic acid as the solvent in the presence of sulfuric acid/sodium bisulfate as catalysts. Degree of substitution (DS) was controlled by the variables of acetylation time and acetic anhydri...

Isolation, characterization and application of a cellulose-degrading strain Neurospora crassa S1 from oil palm empty fruit bunch

BACKGROUND Oil palm empty fruit bunch (EFB) is a lignocellulosic waste produced in palm oil industry. EFB mainly consists of cellulose, hemicellulose (mainly xylan) and lignin and has a great potential to be reused. Converting EFB to fermentable sugars and value-added chemicals is a much better choice than treating EFB as waste. RESULTS A cellulase-producing strain growing on oil palm empty f...

Synthesis and Characterization of ‎Carboxymethyl Cellulose/Polystyrene ‎Core-Shell Nanoparticles by Miniemulsion ‎Polymerization

The first stage to have access to a reservoir is the drilling operation. The proper development of this operation plays a major role in increasing productivity. It must be pointed out that the drilling fluid (mud) is pivotal in achieving this objective. Among these fluids, water-based fluids are the most common ones, which have been utilized to drill approximately 80% of all wells and are m...

Synthesis, Characterisation and Flocculation Properties of Carboxymethyl Cellulose-g Acrylamide

Graft copolymers of acrylamide on carboxymethyl cellulose (d.s 0.4-0.5) were prepared by the use of ceric ion, ceric ion/reductant molecule initiator systems in aqueous medium. The graft copolymers were characterized by IR spectroscopy. The extent of graft copolymerisation was measured in terms of grafted chains as a function of both ceric ion and ceric ion/reductant molecule concentrations. It...
